The Bustop

Waiting at the bus stop
For a bus.
An old lady comes from behind
And asks in Hokkien
Where the lift is.
My Hokkien is bad -
I can only understand when it's spoken,
But I can't speak it well.
So I said to her, it's over there, just up ahead
She replies, confused, so,
I said I'd bring her there.
She said, no, it's too troublesome for you
But she didn't know where it was,
And she wanted to jaywalk the busy road instead.
So, I insisted obviously bringing her to the lift.
She said, you are so kind-hearted.
I just smiled because
I didn't know how to say "it's alright" in Hokkien
She said, oh no, so embarrassing,
What's more it's raining, I pray that the rain will stop in your favour
I smiled because it was such a nice thing to say.
We waited for the lift, and,
When it came, she got a fright, and said,
I'm scared to take this type of lift.
I said, I'll go up with you.
I supported her in, and suddenly she saw her friend in the lift.
She said, go, go! I can take the lift with him.
I got out of the lift cause I was holding everyone else up,
And walked back to the bus stop,
Smiling.
