(Posting some of the drafts that I never got around to posting)
Something I've been thinking about for a long time: Is hygiene a privilege or a given? Personally I believe it is a privilege. It differentiates us from animals and other not as privileged human beings. To be able to bathe after a long, hot day, to be able to brush our teeth with toothbrushes (that have become increasingly high-tech with our increasing lasiness), it actually is something we take for granted, I take for granted. This is not to say that animals and less privileged humans do not value hygiene. Take for example the Orang Asli in Malaysia, they chew on a particular leaf (I've forgotten the name) to clean their teeth. We are considered privileged since we have the ease of a continuous (for now) supply of water, and can use it whenever we want to keep ourselves clean.
Okay that was pretty random but I've been thinking about it for a while.
